Bank of America Local Heroes/Community Champion Awards
Bank of America directs a $5,000 contribution (or local market currency equivalent) to an eligible nonprofit/charitable organization of the hero's choice. Deadlines for nominations are June 1. Consider nominating yourself or another non-profit group working to increase access to healthy food through garden efforts.
Gardening projects are often funded by grants, individually or collaboratively with partners. Below are sites for potential funding sources.
WSU Master Gardener Foundation
Washington Health Foundation—currently grants for rural areas only
DOH/ Office of Health Promotion community block grants
Gates Foundation dedicated to the idea that all people should have healthy, productive lives
USDA Building Better Rural Places focuses on nutrition and health
Robert Wood Johnson foundation focuses on health disparities and obesity prevention
W. K. Kellogg foundation focuses on promoting health, happiness, and well-being of children around the world.
Annie E. Casey Foundation focuses on meeting the needs of today’s vulnerable children and families through grants to help states, cities and neighborhoods create innovative, cost-effective responses to those needs.
